On July 20th, 2011, Truro's radio stations, Cat Country 99.5 and Big Dog 100.9 ran the following story on the increasing demand on our food bank:

The assistant coordinator at the Colchester Food Bank says it's hard to keep food on the shelves right now. Darlene Dubreill says food is going out to clients as quickly as it comes in.

The summer months have always been traditionally low-donation months because of vacations and schools being out, but the need for the food bank just keeps increasing.

Last month, the Colchester Food Bank gave out 812 boxes of food -- fifteen of those to people who had never used the Food Bank before. It totaled over 32,000 pounds of food. But, the Food Bank only received roughly 19-thousand pounds in donations.

Dubreill says the Food Bank is running short right now on some of its staples: soup, canned milk, juice, canned beans, canned fruit, margarine, tea, pasta, pasta sauce, canned meat, sugar and cereal. Financial donations, as always, are needed and appreciated as well.
